On April 3rd, the Syrian Arab Army backed by Russian airforce achieved complete control of the strategic town of Qaryatayn which used to be an ancient Christian place. This important setback for Islamic State is coming a few days after the loss of Palmyra on March 27. As a consequence, Islamic State positions in East Qalamoun and South of Palmyra are now scattered and badly connected. These positions include Mihassah agricultural area which is now threatened by the rebels coming from Ruhaybah area, and some villages scattered in the desert : Busayri, Khunayfis, Ulayyaniyah. Unless a halt in loyalist operations, these positions will be difficult to defend for the jihadists.
