On Jan 9, loyalists launched an offensive aimed at capturing Mughayriyah and Kadin. The offensive was followed by heavy shelling on rebel positions. Some government sources claimed to control the villages during the day. However, some fighting is still happening at the time of writing the article and control of the villages is not confirmed.
By taking both villages, government forces would be able to position for an attack on the strategic town of Salma as these villages are located on the heights of Kafr Dulbah. By controlling the heights, the loyalists would be able to progress to the Eastern entrance of the town.
