NW Hama & Idlib battle (22 april 2015 – ongoing)

On April 22, 2015, a wide rebels coalition called “Army of conquest” (around 40 rebels groups including al-Qaeda linked Al Nusra, Islamic front groups and Free syrian army groups) launched a wide-scale and coordinated attack on a front line ranging from al-Ghab plains in the South West, to Arihah-Mastumah area in the East). The offensive aimed at cutting Loyalists supply road in a first step, and at seizing the whole area in a second step. Eventually, capture of the area by the rebels would open widely the road to Latakia front further West.

On April 30, 2015, loyalists launched several attacks in Latakia and Northern Hama in order to secure Latakia supply road. They claimed to control Jubb al-Ahmar in the mountains West of Al-Ghab plains (although not confirmed by other sources), and to secure Fawru, thus reopening road to Qarqur and Ariha. In the south-West of Jisr, Ganiyah status remain unclear.

Rebels repelled loyalists attacks near Qastum, and counter-attacked south of power plant, advancing toward Msheek. On May 2, 2015, Jabhat al-Nusra detonated a truck bomb on the West gate of Jisr al-Shughur hospital where estimated 100-150 loyalists soldiers are still resisting. Meanwhile, rebels continued to advance East and south of Ariha, capturing loyalists positions on the hills overlooking the city.

  1. I appreciate your genuine effort to provide up to date information on Syrian Civil war.
It is seems to me, that the “Army of conquest” is consist of a wide variety of army.
However, from my own resources, Kurdish force did not this offensive.
With all my respect, may you reveal whether my sources are accurate? Which Kurdish force did not join in.

    • I agree. Kurdish are not part of “Army of conquest”, although some kurdish factions are close to FSA, for example in Kobane battle. Recently, tensions have appeared between Islamic front and YPG in Aleppo (Sheik Maqsood area). Basically kurdish only fight for kurdish areas, except in Hasakah where they also control arab-inhabited ans assyrian-inhabited land
